LAMAI WALK From near Lamai Beach, Koh Samui to John and Linda’s House using Google Street View images and several of their own pix

Locations of the 22 Google Street View images in this slide show Locations of the 22 Google Street View images in this slide show. Lamai Beach is 1.5km from our house (yellow drawing pin) The large white rectangle in this picture is the Tesco Hypermarket.

Looking towards Lamai Beach from as close as the Google Street View car could get to it.

2. Looking away from the beach after rotating 180° at the same spot as in slide #1

3. Heading inland away from the beach. Love those power lines!

4. Continuing away from the beach

5. Jeerapa’s Restaurant where we dine most nights 5. Jeerapa’s Restaurant where we dine most nights. Delicious meals at low prices - no need for us to cook.

6. The Lamai fruit, vege and meat market 6. The Lamai fruit, vege and meat market. Usually very busy around noon and early evening.

7. Just past the market, we reach the 55km Ring Road that circles the island. It is often very busy and congested. This view is looking left at the junction.

8. Now looking right down the Ring Road at the same junction 8. Now looking right down the Ring Road at the same junction. The road we have just come up is to the right of the picture. (We will now proceed to just past the white vehicle)

9. About 30m along the Ring Road 9. About 30m along the Ring Road. Our bank (yellow signage) is on the right, and the turn up towards our place is on the left. (The Ring Road is looking strangely empty)

10. Immediately after turning left off the Ring Road it is suddenly quiet and more relaxing.

11. About 100m from the Ring Road, a small collection of shops and snack places. dire warnings,

12. A little further on is a Muay Thai (boxing) school where each morning and evening dozens of people of all ages and genders happily punch, pummel and punish each other. Not us though!

13. Along the way there are some humble homes made from coconut wood and corrugated iron roofing…

14. …and there are grander homes with lovely gardens

15. Continuing up the gently rising road…

16. … to the junction with Lamai Valley Road (Moo 4) where we turn left

17. Looking along Moo 4, with two resort places either side of the road at this point.

18. A little further along, things look decidedly rural

19. Lots of tropical greenery 19. Lots of tropical greenery. The wire cage at the lower left corner is the communal garbage drop-off point nearest to us.

20. The bridge over a stream bed, immediately after which we turn right (before the blue house) into our access road.

23. View from alongside the blue house looking along the start of our access road. The Google Street View car stopped here, as do most people. The road becomes a sandy track and looks like it leads nowhere. This suits us as it keeps our neighbourhood nice and quiet.

22. The sandy track curves around behind some bushes where it becomes a private concrete road and leads up a slope to our house (and our 3 neighbours) 100m away.

23. View looking up from the bottom of our private access road

24. View looking up from the halfway point of our access road

25. Nearing our house (which is about 50m above sea level)

26. Arriving at our house

27. Another view of our house from the access road (which continues for another 40m before ending)

28. Part of our shady front porch

29. View back down the road from our porch

30. Glimpse of part of our back section terracing project

31. Another glimpse of the back terracing.

And that’s all folks! (↓ Enhanced copies of our new passport photos↓)
