LEARNING GOALS ●IDENTIFY three regions of the middle east and one characteristic for each.

II. GEOGRAPHY a. The Middle East consists of five Regions.

GEOGRAPHY i. THE FERTILE CRESCENT 1. Land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.

GEOGRAPHY 2. Considered to be the best farmland in the Middle East.

GEOGRAPHY 3. It contains Mesopotamia a. Land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

GEOGRAPHY b. This is where one of the first known cities was found. “Ur”

GEOGRAPHY ii. THE ARABIAN PENINSULA 1. Mostly desert, with a dry and hot climate. a. In the Middle East, water is scarce.

GEOGRAPHY 2. The majority of the land is uninhabitable (you can’t live there).

GEOGRAPHY 3. Most fresh water is obtained through the process of desalination. DESALINATION (def.) Procedure that turns salt into fresh water.

GEOGRAPHY 4. This area is rich in petroleum (oil).

GEOGRAPHY 5. The Arabian Peninsula is one of the richest oil areas in the world.
