Engage The main purpose of International Dance Day is to promote dance to as wide an audience as possible, and to highlight the benefits of dance as an art form. These include bringing diverse cultures together and building community. Springs Dance Company is a Christian, London-based, dance company which tour nationally and internationally, performing and teaching original work which inspires and challenges. They work in theatres, schools and churches using dance to inspire and explore issues around life and faith. Elevate Dance Company are the apprenticeship company which train under Springs for a year.

Can you think of a way that dance could be used to explore life and faith? Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?” Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair. Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student. Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections. Activity suggestion … Have a go at setting the Lord’s Prayer to movement. Choose a piece of music to set it against, then use the movements while one person reads out The Lord’s Prayer.

We pray today for Springs Dance Company – please continue to inspire and guide them in their work. Help us to remember that you are near us, and that in you ‘we live, move and have our being’.
