Write 12 correct answers out of 30 questions as a ratio in simplest form. # 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑨𝒏𝒔𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑻𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 12 30 ÷6 ÷6 = 2 5

But what does this really mean? questions, 2 were answered It means that for every 5 questions, 2 were answered correctly.

7th graders at HMS were surveyed . Out of 400 Students, 275 choose basketball as their Favorite sport. Express as a ratio in simplest form. # 𝑾𝒉𝒐 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒅 275 400 ÷25 ÷25 = 11 16

But what does this really mean? Basketball as their favorite It means that for every 16 students, 11 choose Basketball as their favorite sport.

A ratio comparing quantities Unit Rates A ratio comparing quantities with different units What are some common Unit Rates? Miles per gallon $$ per hour

A Unit Rate must have a 1 in the denominator For every 1 hour, you can 30 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑠 2 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠 ÷2 ÷2 = 15 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑠 1 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟 For every 1 hour, you can Travel 15 miles

A Unit Rate must have a 1 in the denominator 1 orange costs $2.50 $25 10 𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑠 ÷10 ÷10 = $2.50 1 𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒 1 orange costs $2.50

In 1 minute, he reads 25 words A Unit Rate must have a 1 in the denominator 300 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑠 12 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑡𝑒𝑠 ÷12 ÷12 = 25 1 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑡𝑒 In 1 minute, he reads 25 words

Your turn to try on your own! The denominator MUST be 1 Remember The denominator MUST be 1 Check your answer For reasonableness! Pg 11 #1-12
