PreAP Geometry welcome cell phone policy expectations one credit to Ms. Amber Pearson Room 443 amber.pearson@fortbendisd.com one credit welcome to preap geometry PreAP Geometry emphasizes logical thinking and its application in the informal justification and formal proof of conjectures. Students solve problems by synthetic (traditional), coordinate, and/or transformational methods. Problem solving applies the Algebra previously learned, emphasizes connections, and involves non-routine applications. Students are expected to independently identify the appropriate techniques needed to complete their work. Investigations utilizing tools including technology allow and require independent thinking during class time. Per school policy cell phones must remain OFF and OUT OF SIGHT during class unless posted that they will be in use for a specific class activity. You may use your cellphone prior to 7:30 AM, during passing periods, during lunch, and after the final bell at the end of the day. During a test/quiz, if an electronic device or a phone is found in your possession, no matter if it is on or off, you will receive a zero on the assessment and the device will be handled in accordance with school policy. expectations cell phone policy be on time bring a writing utensil and your Geometry notebook every day Bring the right tools for the day: protractor, calculator, ruler, compass, etc.… respect yourself, your peers (this includes opinions and property!) and school staff & property take responsibility for your own learning ie. ask for help when you don’t understand, stay focused during work time given

grades commonly asked questions 50% 50% signatures DAILY GRADES Each 9 weeks counts for 42.5% and the final exam is 12.5% of the semester average DAILY GRADES Quizzes will be given multiple times during a unit. These are designed to give students, parents and teacher information on how students are progressing through each unit and if intervention will be needed before the unit test. Test Preparation Activity Packets and Unit Reflections will also be completed for each unit and each of these will count as a Daily Grade. 50% QUIZZES/TPAS/ UNIT REFLECTIONS MAJOR GRADES Tests will be administered at the end of each unit and will cover all material assessed on the quizzes as well as other review material from previous units as announced. 50% TESTS/PROJECTS CHEATING ON QUIZZES, TESTS, AND/OR PROJECTS WILL RESULT IN A ZERO AND PARENT CONTACT WILL BE MADE. THE INVOLVEMENT OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION MAY ALSO TAKE PLACE AND FURTHER PENALTIES SHOULD BE EXPECTED. commonly asked questions Can I retake a test? What supplies do I need? What about technology? Fort Bend ISD allows parents to access up-to-date student information including grades using Family Access (you can sign up for this on the FBISD website). Please make sure your email addresses are correct in Family Access so that you can receive information that I send out through the Message Center in Family Access. We will also utilize Schoology, FBISD’s Learning Management System. Because this system is new, we will learn about its benefits and capabilities together as the year unfolds and will likely begin to communicate through Schoology rather than Family Access. Information and updates will be provided as needed. Students that earn below a 75 on a major test will be allowed a retest opportunity along with district guidelines. Depending on the unit, the format of the retest may vary, but the retest opportunity will be thoroughly explained to students. Pencils/pens of your choice (class notes are often done in multiple colors) Agenda or planner Tissue box – to donate to class Binder or folder for all assignments and graded materials (should contain only papers for this class) Positive hard-working attitude Optional: calculator, compass, protractor (class set provided) signatures Share this syllabus with your parents and let them know what you’ll be up to this year, and return with your parent or guardian’s signature as well as your own. It’s important to include your family in your education to ensure you get the help, reminders, and support you need to succeed. This syllabus should be kept as the first page in your binder/notebook all year. your signature your parent/guardian’s signature
