Presentation transcript:

What is a decision? A decision is defined as a determination arrived at after consideration.

The Decision Making Model We will use a Six Step model to arrive at a rational decision. Each step must be completed before moving on to the next step.

The Steps 1. Define the situation and the desired outcome. Ex: “I want to go to college to become a teacher.”

The Steps 2. Research and identify options. -What grade level? Subject? What school? Commute or live on campus? Financial aid? Program reviews.

The Steps 3. Compare and contrast each alternative and its consequences Ex: School vs. School, proximity, length of program.

The Steps 4. Make a decision, but have an alternative. Ex: I would like to go to school here, but will apply to two other schools of choice as well.

The Steps 5. Design and implement an action plan Apply. Choose. Go forward.

The Steps 6. Evaluate results Confident? Satisfied? Did you “get what you wanted” out of your decision?

Your Turn.. “ You and your friend went to a birthday party. While at the party, your friend consumed several beers. Your friend is your ride home, and your curfew is quickly approaching.” Using the six step process, come to a rational decision on the situation listed above. Please write this in your notebook.
