Key Vocab. Setting: New York, 1922 Mood: Innocent, Euphoric, Foreboding, Dark Protagonist: Nick Carraway Main Characters: Jay Gatsby, Daisy and Tom Buchannan, Jordan Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson

Summary The Narrator is a writer named Nick Carraway, who has moved from the Midwest to New York in 1922. He becomes entangled in the affairs of others due to his non-judgmental character. They confide in him.

Summary He moves into the small guest house next to Jay Gatsby, a mysterious billionaire who gives extravagant parties every weekend, but isn’t really seen attending. Where is the money coming from? Why the elaborate parties? He visits his cousin, Daisy, and her husband. The next day her husband takes him for a day on the town. With his girlfriend. In the end, after everything has been done, Nick admits there is a limit to his tolerance and forgiveness. Some people do not deserve it.

Carraway, the main character, chooses to hope that people are good, and have honorable intentions. He reserves judgment and holds out for the best. Theme: Hope Gatsby hopes beyond time and reason to be with the woman he loves. Even after the situation has turned bleak and hopeless, Gatsby chooses to hope. He believes.

So Close by Jon McLaughlin So close to reaching That famous happy end. Almost believing This one's not pretend. And now you're beside me, And look how far we've come. So far we are. So close... Oh how could I face the faceless days If I should lose you now? We're so close to reaching that famous happy end, And almost believing, this one's not pretend. Let's go on dreaming for we know we are... so close, so close and still so far... So Close by Jon McLaughlin You're in my arms, and all the world is calm. The music playing on for only two. So close, together. And when I'm with you So close, to feeling alive. A A life goes by, Romantic dreams must die. So I bid my goodbye And never knew. So close, was waiting, Waiting here with you. And now, forever, I know All that I wanted to hold you so close.
