The Educational Process: 2 Initial supervisory session: Assigned Graduate Tutor / supervisor – explain Appraisal & monitoring process Reviews: 3, 6 & 12 months – Upgrade Supervisor is responsible – YOU need to be aware Online Research Log – mandatory component. Student and supervisors complete the log Graduate School website: Handbooks - Courses Regular Graduate tutor meetings / Fixed yearly appointments - PASTORAL CARE……..
MPhil to PhD Upgrade: First Year report / PhD Upgrade combined 12-18mths F/T – 18-30mths P/T Written Report & viva voce examination 2 examiners: Subsidiary & 1 academic advisor external to the project (can be IoO) Written Report: 20-30 pages Copy of online student log sections A & B Step by Step Process including 2nd & 3rd year reviews: Document 4 & Appendix 3
MD (Res): No upgrade – Process of reviews Initial supervisory session: 3mth period identified for thesis writing 6 mth assessment: Formal discussion & supervisory report 12 mth assessment: Written report, Formal Assessment interview & meeting with Graduate Tutor 18 mth assessment: Appraisal / supervisors & Graduate Tutors Step by Step Process & form completion: Document 4 & Appendix 4
Final Year / Submission: MPhil / PhD Completion Timetable: 3 years F/T - 5 years P/T - from date of registration Experimental work must be completed Thesis must be submitted at end of CRS period: exam entry 4mths before submission CRS Time table: 1 year F/T – 2 years P/T Post CRS implications: Fees on sliding scale
