8th December 2013: 2nd Sunday of Advent

Gospel: Matthew Ch. 3: 1 – 12

The Preaching of John the Baptist and the feast of the Immaculate Conception Luke 1: 26 - 38

a) John’s message “Repent, the Kingdom of heaven is close at hand” Mt 3: 1 – 12 a) John’s message “Repent, the Kingdom of heaven is close at hand”

b) Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight.

c) Many people went to him in the river Jordan, they confessed their sins and were baptised.

d) I, John baptise you in water for repentance, but the One who follows me is more powerful than I am, / and I am not fit to carry his sandals; He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.

The Lord is always ready to forgive us, only we have to be sorry for our sins.

John showed us that penance is important by the way he lived.

As we are preparing for the coming of Jesus at Christmas we should examine ourselves about the way we are living: at home, in school, during activities outside school time … etc

The Immaculate Conception 1. We believe that Mary was conceived with God’s special grace in her mother’s womb.

One day Mary would bear Jesus, her son, our Lord and Saviour.

Mary brought salvation to the world by her “Yes” to the will of the Father.

Do we ever pray and ask God to show us the way of life He wants us to lead?

Let us never forget that the Mother of Jesus is also our mother.

Let us ask Her especially to protect us of sin, She who is the Purest of all creatures.
