acrimonious (adjective) bitter/spiteful Though they are brothers, the relationship between Tad and Chip is often acrimonious. .

anachronism (noun) a holdover from another time something from the wrong time period A cell phone in a movie about the 1920s would be an anachronism.

atrophy (verb/noun) waste away/wither (verb) the process of wasting or withering If you do not exercise, your muscles can atrophy.

consternation (noun) dismay/a sense of worry I hope you did not feel a sense of consternation after you received your ACT scores.

desist (verb) cease/halt The legal injunction said the movie company must desist filming on public property.

enigma (noun) a mystery My brother says every woman is an enigma.
