Presentation transcript:

AP BRITISH LITERATURE and COMPOSITION 8th year as AP course Students are not required to take the exam, but it is worth $94.00 for the chance to save a whole course’s cost! College Committees like to see students trying! Scores are not received until early July, so they do NOT affect students’ grades.

Course Overview British Literature from Anglo Saxon to contemporary, covers fiction, novels, poetry, drama, and literary nonfiction works. This year the course will be taught chronologically, navigating through the AP syllabus by period rather than genre.

Important Students who are absent must find out what they missed and make up the work on their own. Students have in class mailboxes- missed worksheets can often be found there! Or, more likely, on Google Classroom. Revisions are a valuable part of learning, and any uncorrected assignment can be revised, and turned in with original up to 5 business days before progress reports or reports cards are due. Make up work in most cases is due the next school day, not the next class period. Once others have received graded work back, make up work cannot be turned in for a grade.

Homework Students will read novels and write formal essays at home. Parents can offer feedback on essays, but should not edit work. Senior year is stressful- parents- simply be there, listen to the moaning and groaning, and empathize. Help with time management and overload prevention. Academic Integrity Please be aware I will NOT write recommendations for any senior caught cheating. If I have already submitted a recommendation, and the offence is serious, I do have the right to notify the student’s universities that I am withdrawing my recommendation. Remind students- I allow revisions, and it is much easier to revise an assignment than rebuild trust.

Google Classroom Nearly all work will be done in Google Docs, on Google Classroom. Students should not send emails with assignments, as these often end up in SPAM, or get lost in the hundreds of emails that pile sky high. Google Classroom or Paper.

Snacks… Please do not send meals for your kids to eat during class… I know they are starving teenagers, but send apples, bananas, cheese, cookies, etc. Please NO NUTS– this is a nut free classroom. Please NO FISH– this is a fish free classroom.
