Explain The significance of phosphorus to living organisms Explain The significance of phosphorus to living organisms ? What do living organisms use phosphorus for? Phosphorus is essential for growth and development of living organisms. Phosphorus is used for farming, matches, and fireworks

Most phosphorus on earth is trapped inside the earth's crust (geosphere). How does Phosphorus move from the geosphere to the biosphere and back? When rock material is broken down through natural weathering processes, phosphorus is released into soil and water. Plants and plant like organisms in water absorb the phosphorus, and animals obtain it when they eat plants, plant like organisms, and other animals. Decomposers return phosphorus to soil and water as they break down dead organisms. Human activities also release phosphates into soil and water.

How do Producers obtain Phosphorus? Producers absorb phosphorus from water.

How do consumers obtain Phosphorus? Consumers will eat the producers which already have the phosphorus.

How is it different from how consumers obtain phosphorus? Instead of absorbing the phosphorus the consumers eat the phosphorus through plants and other animals. They also obtain the phosphorus by drinking the water.

What human activities cause excess phosphorus to enter the phosphorus cycle and what effects does this have? Phosphorus is also in a main ingredient in fertilizer. Excess phosphorus in runoff from agricultural field contributors to algal blooms, and subsequent death of aquatic organisms. Phosphorus is also found in household cleaners and dishwashing and laundry detergents. Also that may sound like a minor source, scientists estimate that removing phosphorus from dishwasher detergents alone could reduce the amount of phosphorus in runoff by 10%.
