Provincial Flag White is representative of snow and ice; Blue represents the Sea Red represents human effort Gold our confidence in ourselves.

Other Symbolism The Blue section, most reminiscent of the Union Jack represents our Commonwealth heritage. Official flag from 1952-1980. - The Red section and Gold section, larger than the others, represent our future.

Other Symbolism The two triangles outlined in the picture portray the mainland and island parts of our province reaching forward together. A golden arrow points the way to what we believe will be a bright future.

Other Symbolism Christian Cross, the Beothuck and Naskapi ornamentation, the outline of the maple leaf in the centre of the flag, a triumphant figure and our place in the space age. The image of the trident represents our continued dependence on the fishery and the resources of the sea.

Other Symbolism The arrow assumes the aspect of a sword which is to remind us of the sacrifice of our War Veterans. - It therefore, mirrors our past, present and future. The flag was officially adopted on June 6, 1980. Designed by Christopher Pratt

NL Tricolor Newfoundland tricolor, green, white, and pink. Some believe it was actually an official flag of Newfoundland but this is not the case It originated in the 1880’s as the flag of a Roman Catholic Fraternal (the star of the sea) group in St. John’s, NL. One of the oldest recognized flags in the world

NL Tricolor Some resemblance to Irish Flag except pink is used instead of orange. Orange has a protestant representation as it reflects King William of Orange
