GUIDANCE FOR DESIGNERS (CDM) The PD’s main role is to: Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate H&S: 1. identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks. 2. ensure designers carry out their duties. 3. prepare & provide relevant information to other duty holders, that there is an appropriate process for designer coordination and co-operation when there is interaction between temporary works and permanent works. 4. provide relevant information to the PC to help them plan, manage, monitor & coordinate H&S in construction phase.

GUIDANCE FOR DESIGNERS (CDM) The PD should, so far as is reasonably practicable: 1. Ensure that PWD’s have considered the impact of their designs on H&S during construction 2. Ensure PWDs followed the ‘general principles of prevention’ within their design e.g. Designing steelwork that is purposely designed to accommodate safety netting to aid assembly; The PD should ensure PWD’s provide relevant information on their designs to inform TWD’s (especially risks or loads that could impact on TW or assumed sequencing to prevent instability)

GUIDANCE FOR DESIGNERS (CDM) PWD’s need to consider how something is to be constructed, cleaned, maintained and decommissioned. This involves ensuring that the overall design takes account of any temporary works needed including checking that consideration has been given to sufficient working space and sequencing.
