Entry considerations… Entry to St Simon Stock 6th Form is 5 GCSE (or equivalent) grades 4-9. Most subjects have subject specific criteria. A-levels are all linear. This means that all exams are taken at the end of Year 13. Coursework for the majority of linear A-levels has been removed. BTECs include both an examined element and (normally) a controlled assessment that is marked externally. IB Diploma subjects all have a mix of coursework and exams. The exams for IB Diplomas are all in Year 13 and the results come out earlier than for A-levels; typically we will know the results for IBCP students by the end of June/early July. If a student has not achieved Level 4-9 in English (either Language or Literature) and/or Mathematics, they must study these courses post-16 – a decision made by the government in the wake of the Raising Participation Age to 18. These will be a priority on timetables. Choose a pathway that suits YOU. Think about the way you study, the subjects you like and the pathway that is likely to result in the best possible options for your future.
