Reacting compounds 11 January 2019

Reacting compounds

Learning Objective To understand reactions between compounds All: Can state an example Most: Can describe this example in detail Some : Can write word equations and explain what has happened to the atoms

Examples Many compounds react to form new compounds or elements. They generally do this because of the reactivity of the elements or molecules they contain. Acid base reactions are good example of compounds reacting .

Making salts React equal quantities of NaOH (1.0M) and HCl (1.0M). Place the solution in an evaporating basin and heat. Stop heating when a small amount of water is left What do you observe?

Results NaOH + HCl  H20 + NaCl Name and count the atoms in each of the compounds, what do you notice? Write a word equation for the reaction

Write it up Equipment Method Observations Explanation
