Who was Hitler and what were his aims?

Who was Hitler and what were his aims? Lesson Aim: To be able to explain Hitler’s four foreign policy aims. TASK: Share your interesting piece of information about Hitler. Take some photos on PhotoGleamer of the pupils information to show the whole class.

What kind of leader does this video show Hitler to be? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2YEUhHFMHY What do you think Hitler’s foreign policy aims may be?

Hitler’s foreign policy aims To destroy the Treaty of Versailles, by re-arming Germany and recovering lands lost in the Treaty. Aim ~2: To bring all German-speaking people everywhere under German control. In particular, this means reuniting with Austria. Aim ~3: To expand East in order to gain Lebensraum (‘living space’) for the German people. This means Poland and the USSR (Russia). Aim ~4: To destroy the communist USSR (Russia). Make a note of these aims. Note down this table and the timeline on p47. Extra Challenge: Why do you think Hitler wanted these things? Why do you think he felt the German people would want this also?

Why did Britain and France follow at policy of appeasement toward Hitler? Use p54 to make a table top poster of why appeasement was/was not a good idea. Make two spider diagrams: Reasons for appeasement/reasons against appeasement.
