Strategic Planning Summary

Strategic Planning Content in Context How do you develop a coherent plan of action that impacts staff quality? Strategic Planning

What is Strategic Planning? Strategic Planning is an ongoing process for determining the next, necessary priority areas for improvement by assisting you in documenting what you want to achieve over time and outlining a path to get there A Strategic Plan includes: Goals/Priority to describe where you want to focus and end up over time Metrics to define how success and outcomes will be measured Benchmarks to target outcomes. Strategies or initiatives that are expected to drive progress towards the goal. Tactical Plans that list all of the tasks that must occur to achieve a strategy. Strategic or Not

From Strategy to Impact: Bridging the Gap Clear, measurable goals with milestones Strategies to reach the goal Actions with timelines within strategies Staff names attached to actions Plan completed in advance Clear Engagement of HR teams and Principals Urban Schools Human Capital Academy Day 1 October 2015

Why is This Important? Strategic Planning Drills down to make goals actionable Focuses your team’s efforts on actions that make an impact Provides a rationale for allocating resources – time, money, people Allows you to end work that isn’t productive Strategic or Not

Keep in Mind Things to Remember Understand your current state and where you need to improve Strategic Planning should focus your efforts towards a specific goal – less is more Ensure your plans enhance and align with your organization’s broader strategy for improvement Collect baseline performance metrics to track your progress Actively engage other departments in support of your plan Ensure resources align with your plan Strategic or Not
