Oral History Lessons Learned

Students’ Lessons Learned - Time and Effort Commitment ! Teamwork - with student partner, veteran and family, teachers - communicate well, divide responsibilities, proactive Planning - analyze requirements and build a year-long plan - backward planning - use recording equipment and transcription software - Dragon app for i-phone, pad, pod – free basic version - Experiment with other available software Research and Prepare

Veterans’ Lessons Learned Communication ! - contact veteran early and regularly ---speak distinctly, slowly, and loud to elderly veterans -- get veteran’s phone and home address -- get alternate phone for spouse or care giver - interviews -- face to face at veteran’s home --- beware of distractions on wall, phone ringing, etc. -- may also be by phone or e-mail due to travel or health - explain clearly to veteran each step you take Expectations - very disappointing when students drop out of project - courteous, prepared, prompt
