What is Psycholinguistics ? a branch of study which combines the disciplines of psychology and linguistics. It is concerned with the relationship between the human mind and the language as it examines the processes that occur in brain while producing and perceiving both written and spoken.

3 COMPONENTS IN COMUNICATION : PARTICIPANTS : SENDER & RECEIVER INFORMATION/MESSAGE TOOLS : VERBAL (ORAL, WRITTEN) , NON VERBAL (SIGN, BODY LANGUAGE, PICTURE)

2 KINDS OF COMMUNICATION : ONE WAY COMMUNICATION ( speech, news reading, radio broadcast , monologue ) TWO WAYS COMMUNICATION ( meeting, dialogue, discussion, agreement )

LANGUAGE PROCESS : PRODUCTIVE ASPECT Process to produce a meaningful and useful language. This process is called Encode. RECEPTIVE ASPECT Process to receive a language that meaningful and useful for himself and his environment. This process is called Decode.

Encoding Process : Semantic Encoding – Grammatical Encoding – Phonological Encoding Transmitted : from brain – speech organ – speech – ears Decoding Process : to brain – Phonological Decoding – Grammatical Decoding – Semantic Decoding.

LANGUAGE (L1 AND L2 ) LEARNING PROCESS : LANGUAGE ACQUISITION L1 acquisition that happens naturally, unprogrammed, without teacher. Natural teacher : parents, sister, brother, family, baby sitter/nanny, surroundings. LANGUAGE LEARNING L2 acquisition that happens through learning.
