1. impotent: lacking power or strength

2. descendants: proceeding from an ancestor or source

3. taciturn: tending to be quiet : not speaking frequently

4. synonymous: Having the same or a similar meaning (ex 4. synonymous: Having the same or a similar meaning (ex. A factory produces pollution so a factory is synonymous with pollution)

5. first-degree murder: An act of murder which is premeditated with malice aforethought (to plan a murder and have no bad feelings about it)

6. profound: having or showing great knowledge or understanding

9. amble: to walk slowly in a free and relaxed way

10. detachment: lack of emotion or of personal interest

11. conditional mood: A form of the verb used to signify that something is contingent upon the outcome of something else (e.g. If I am a woman, than I can open it. (Meaning that even someone who is weak can open it)

12. direct characterization: An explicit description of the character's traits or qualities; a clear and direct statement of what the character is like

13. human vs. human: A conflict in which the protagonist must contend with another character

14. omniscient narration: An all-knowing narrator; a narrator who has a detailed and full knowledge of the story's events and characters (from varying perspectives)

15. oxymoron: A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction.
