Scientific Method Notes

What question are you trying to investigate?

Find out as much as you can about the topic. Research Find out as much as you can about the topic.

Hypothesis “If…then…because…” If…(state manipulated variable), then…(state responding variable) because…(give prediction reason)

List all materials by number. You MUST have a tool that measures your responding variable. Such as: thermometer, ruler, etc.

Procedures (experiment) Procedures must be written out in steps Label all variable in your procedure. Be specific on what the procedure is. Must write “measure and record data” in steps. Trials must be repeated.

Record all data and use a graph to illustrate your data. Record Data Record all data and use a graph to illustrate your data.

Conclusion Restate your hypothesis: was it correct or incorrect? Refer to low data Refer to high data Explain the difference between your high and low data. What does it mean?

Variables Controlled Variable: something in the experiment that stays the same Manipulated Variable: something in the experiment that changes (there should only be 1) Responding Variable: the reaction between the controlled in the manipulated variables CV + MV = RV
