Practical #2 Bones Instructions

Practical instructions Put your stuff down in the back or underneath a desk and sit down at a station (all you need is a pen/pencil) Take an answer sheet Each station (seat) has two numbered bones. You will have 1 minute per seat to identify both bones. Basically, when the timer beeps, move over one seat. You will have the chance to see stations again at the end.

Procedure Each bone has a piece of green tape with a number on it that corresponds to the question Each station has numbered questions taped in front of it. There are 52 total bones Odd numbers are axial bones Even numbers are appendicular bones To help you make sure you write your answer in the correct blank, the appendicular bone question at each station is boxed: 2. Name this part of the bone. And the question number on your answer sheet is also boxed: 2. _______________

Left or Right? The last eight appendicular stations (even numbers 38-52) ask for the bone part and whether it is a left or a right bone. There are two blanks on the answer sheet for these, one for the bone part (.5 point) and one for L/R (.5 point) DON’T LEAVE THE L/R BLANK!

Scoring There are 6 double stations in each of the four main rows (6 x 2 x 4 = 48) and 2 double stations (2 x 2 =4) on the side for a total of 52 stations (26 axial bones and 26 appendicular). Each question is worth 1 total point, so total possible is 52 (2 total extra credit possible)

Helpful hints There are no repeat answers for bones/parts, e.g., if you have “deltoid tuberosity” for two answers, one of them is wrong.

Helpful hints Pay attention to the question that is asked: is it asking for the bone? Part of the bone? The hole? The suture? The type of vertebrae? The vertebra? Left or right? For bone Parts: If you don’t know the part of the bone, but you think you know the whole bone name, put that and you will get half credit. Thus, for most questions, the best answer you can write includes both the part and the bone name - because then if the part is wrong, but the bone name is right, you still get half credit Example: perpendicular plate of the ethmoid

Helpful Hints MAKE SURE TO START IN THE CORRECT BLANK ON THE SHEET (look down right now at the station in front of you and mark your starting place. When timer beeps, move over one seat as follows:
