V-1 Responsible for safe start, taxi, launch & recovery of all aircraft and helicopters. The “Rock Stars” of the flight deck…nothing happens without their approval. Average age 19.5 years old.
V-1 Largest division within Air Department. Over 200 men and women. Supervised by three officers and three Chief Petty Officers.
V-2 Heart and soul of Air Department. Ensure all the “Hoover Dam” equipment works. Four catapults, five arresting gear engines, all lighting.
V-2 Launch: 78,000 lb aircraft 0-150mph in 2.5 secs. Stop/Recovers: 54,000 lb aircraft 150-0 in 180 feet.
V-3 Maintenance and parking lot for aircraft. Subdivided into three bays. Four elevators 124,000 lb capacity.
V-3 Fire fighting central. Main passage.
V-4 “Fuelies” provide JP-5 to all aircraft. Clean, clear and bright.
V-4 Manages 3,000,000 gallons of fuel. Two pump rooms providing 16 fueling stations. Completely “top off” entire airwing in one hour.
V-5 Administrative support. Manage tower, flight deck control, and hangar deck control.
