English/Language Arts 60 minutes per day 6 English/Language Arts Units of Study which utilize nonfiction and fiction leveled texts, Storytown resources, and Fundations materials ELA: Storytown is our teacher resource for instruction. Real literature (Eric Carle-Head to Toe), specific lessons are directly linked to CCSS for each unit. First Unit is about communication: looking someone in the eye when speaking to them, an appropriate greeting, how to ask a question (all things typical Kindergarteners need to learn) – these are CCSS speaking and listening standards. In addition, students are learning/reviewing letters and letter sounds. Assessments are taking place to determine student knowledge of letters, letter sounds.
Writers’ Workshop 3 hours per week 4 Units of Study that introduce students to narrative, information, and opinion writing Narrative: Launching the Writing Workshop & Writing for Readers Information: How-To Books Opinion: Persuasive Writing of All Kinds
Math 60 minutes per day Year begins with building a Community of Mathematicians 6 units of study utilizing Number Talks and Math In Practice resources Refer parents to page 4 within Grade K’s Curriculum in a Nutshell booklet to see specific content and skills for the grade level. MATH: Math in Practice is our primary resource for instruction. Students are focused on using actual materials to count and represent numbers of objects in a set. The first unit focuses on student understanding of number from 0-5. This is of primary importance for building a foundation in number sense. Subitizing is instant recognition of a combination of dots for example: (show dot card or dice). Talk about number collections…cardinality. We are working to build a learning environment that builds math practices/habits of mind and fosters a growth mindset in mathematics Family letter within the Community of Mathematicians “Kick Off” Unit: Family letter - community of mathematicians

Conferences November 13th 1:24 dismissal 14th 1:54 dismissal November 6th (Wednesday) is not a conference day, but I will open up the afternoon to conferences. November 7 and 8 (Thursday and Friday) I will have 7:45 am conference times available. Conference Sign Up sheet in the back of the room. Reminders will be sent.
