Presentation transcript:

INSTITUTIONAL DEGREE AWARDING The act of awarding a degree to a student upon completion of their stated degree requirements in lieu of waiting for a student to apply to graduate.

Impacts for osu More students graduating each year Improved compliance with federal financial aid regulatory requirements

Beginning fall 2018 (undergraduates only) Pilot colleges: Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences Liberal Arts Public Health and Human Sciences Honors

Winter and/or spring All other colleges begin with their undergraduate students Agricultural Sciences Business Education Engineering Forestry Science

how does this work? Instead of the student applying to graduate we will do it for them if they are near completion of their program – after the add deadline. Using MyDegrees percentage complete of 98% and 100%.

Advisor report Student ID Last Name First Name Email Degree %Complete College Standing Campus Applied Crds Advisor Last Term Current Reg DPP Major 2nd Description Future Reg #########   Bachelor of Science 90.25 10 00 B 196.50 201803 /DFL/DUCO/ 286 Social Science 201901 Bachelor of Arts 90.19 AW 190.00 201703 /DUCO/ 90.83 155.00 3.00 Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree 92.78 C 159.00 6.00 473 Digital Communication Arts 94.67 189.00 /DULB/UAC/ 92.15 169.00 /DULB/ 97.42 188.00 98.00 195.00 /DU02/DULB/ 97.00 9.00 96.30 170.00 19.00 /ATE/ 99.00 178.00 16.00 96.61

Anybody missing? Students with transfer credits (maybe others) not at 98% or 100% may manually apply if finishing at the end of the term.

What about students not ready to graduate? Students may “opt out” of graduation if their program of study changes. Maybe their program of study is inaccurate Add a minor, certificate

How will students know? Notice to pilot college students in September about program First week of fall term remind same students to check their MyDegrees Mid point of term let students know they are pending graduation Week 9 another reminder End of term congratulations or address issues

Advisor communication Met with pilot college advisors twice over the summer Provided the aforementioned list of potential fall graduates to pilot colleges Run the potential fall graduate list again and provide to pilot colleges week 2 of fall After the mid-point of fall provide a list of students in the fall graduation pool (to pilot colleges) that are not 98% or 100% for review End of term – provide a list of candidates that did not complete requirements

What’s next? Continue to work with pilot students and colleges during fall Will continue with “old” process with both pilot and non-pilot colleges Monitor how pilot goes and gear up for other colleges in winter/spring
