Message to EU Citizens (19.10.17) Settled status application process will be simple and cheap No need for comprehensive sickness insurance User group advising on design & implementation to include EU citizens

Key issues for UK HE: students, staff and research

UK Facts and figures There are currently nearly half a million international students at UK universities, with over 125,000 of them [c5% of the total population] from EU countries. 16% of academic staff at UK universities are from EU countries In 2014/15 UK Universities attracted over £836 million in research grants and contracts from EU sources. This represented 14.2% of all income from research grants and contracts in that year. Source: UUK

ENU Student numbers EU applications to UK HEIs down 2% in 2017 Source: UCAS September 2017 EU enrolments at ENU 2017 down 7%, but… EU still 14% of our overall student population Some areas remain “at risk” after 2019 (or 2021) SFC grant funding is also threatened We are pressing for fee guarantees - entry 2019 ENU has already underwritten compulsory EU mobility schemes for entrants in 2018

ENU Staffing issues EU staff account for c10% of ENU staff This is already below the UK HEI average There is little evidence (so far) of a “Brexit effect”
