Being a wise consumer

Why we buy We decide to satisfy a need/want by making a purchase. We then determine what we can afford the cost. We then look at the alternatives available to us in regards to that purchase. Why we buy

Gathering Consumer information We need to first know is this a consumable product or not. Then, we consider the following: Quality, cost, availability, warranty, reputation. Gathering Consumer information

Sources of Information Family and friends Advertising Sales/informational brochures Catalogs Magazine/newspaper articles Consumer product-testing organizations Sources of Information

When purchasing a major item, it is important that you read and understand the warranty. Some things to consider: What is covered? (Labor, parts) Length of time? Cost of repair? (If it has to be shipped away, who pays?) What is required to keep the warranty in effect? Checking the warranty
