Research Once you have your Research topic You are ready to Begin Researching Using library databases/resources to help with your research

Background Sources The purpose of a Background source is to get you started on your research Better understanding on your topic. Additional Keywords. Background sources include: Encyclopedias Almanacs Subject specific encyclopedias Dictionaries Handbooks Indexes

Credo Reference Credo Reference Concept Map Online Reference Source. Visual map that displays how search terms and topics in Credo Reference are interconnected. Quickly find information when you don't know what to look for Get topic ideas for papers or research projects, expand your knowledge of a given area.

Library’s Website OneSearch Books & Media Search for articles, books, journals, and more. Books & Media Search for e-books, books, movies, and more . Articles cannot be found here. Articles, Journals, and Databases Search for articles in journals and magazines Search for journals Search for databases

OneSearch Take time to read the help section.

Follow “Full Text Online” link to read the article OneSearch: Articles Limit your results by… peer-reviewed publications journal articles publication date, if you choose Follow “Full Text Online” link to read the article

Database Searching OneSearch is a great place to start for your research, but it only searches about 98% of the library holdings (It “scratches the surface”). Searching in a subject specific database will help you get more relevant results. I will show you 2 databases today, but there are many more. SageJournals ScienceDirect

Sage Journals

ScienceDirect

Citing… Why is it important? Give credit where credit is due Gives your reader the ability to go back to locate your sources What information is needed? Author Title of Book or Article Journal Name (if citing an article) Volume/issue Year Page Number

Reference Section When you successfully find a “good” journal article and you want to find more like it… Look at the Reference Section of the article Search for the journal title of the citation using the “find journals” box on research guide This will tell you if Wiggins library has access to this journal and if we do how you can access it (print or electronically)

Reference Section The reference section of a journal article can lead you to more articles on your topic Sample citation: Search the journal name in the “find Journals” section of the research guide (note if title is abbreviated than you may have to search google for the full journal name)

Wiggins Library Journal holdings After you search for the full journal title and Wiggins library has access to that title you will see something like this Dates are important here. The blue link will take you to the database where you can get your article. Note: if you see “local holdings” this means that this title is available only in the library itself.

Inter-library Loan (ILL) Place an Interlibrary loan request for material that the library does not have access to. Here is the form for requesting an ILL: http://www.lib.campbell.edu/interlibrary-loan Create an ILLiad Account Articles take about 2-3 days, books take 3-5 days Start your research early in case you have to place an ILL request.
