Diversity in Organisations Gender Mainstreaming in Organisations

What is Gender Mainstreaming The term „gender mainstreaming“ means … putting a gender equality perspective into mainstream policies. The Council of Europe defines it as „the (re)organisation, improvement, development and evaluation of policy processes, so that a gender equality perspective is incorporated in all policies at all levels and at all stages, by the actors normally involved in policy- making“.

The benefits for Men and Organisations The gender mainstreaming strategy also allows inequalities for men to be analysed and acted on in policy making process. On average women are more likely than men not to be represented in important decisions making positions. However men are more likely than women to leave school early. The strategy of gender mainstreaming allows analysis of the reasons why these differences occur, as well as identification of actions to adress these issues. Organisations thus can for example benefit from both women and men best educated and as longlasting personal ressource.
