3.8 Paragraph Introduction You will need to keep these notes for the entire school year!

A 3.8 paragraph contains three support sentences and a total of eight sentences, hence the name 3.8 paragraph.

The first sentence is a topic sentence. (TS) This sentence lets the audience know the subject to be discussed in your paragraph.

You will then offer a support sentence (SS) where you offer one piece of evidence to prove your topic sentence. The SS is followed by an explanation sentence (EX) where you expand on the information in your SS. This pattern is repeated two more times.

You will finish your 3.8 paragraph with a concluding sentence. (CS) This sentence provides an overall statement for the information presented in your paragraph.

Your 3.8 paragraph looks like this: TS (Topic Sentence) SS (Support Sentence) EX (Explanation) CS (Concluding Sentence).
