10 years of the Ministry of Parenting ……. our incredible years story

The story started 20 years ago …… 1998 I came to Seattle Became inspired Became a mentor Continued to be inspired 2008 I had an incredible idea…

Started with…… A passion for the programmes Frustration in direction of our job roles

Started with…… A partnership with core values Naivety …with rose coloured glasses

About us The Ministry of Parenting is a social enterprise in the form of a community interest company (CIC) – not for profit We support families and individuals through information, guidance, group programmes, workshops, home-coaching and professional trainings

Our name The company name was inspired by Jamie Oliver’s Book ‘Ministry of Food’ The original Ministry of Food was the governments response to rationing during World War 2 The general message was to “pass it on” – learn a recipe, share it and teach others; keeping the cycle of knowledge alive Our wish is to pass on a “parenting menu” to support healthy parenting

The core team … Directors Group leaders

Plus … Director MoP sessional group leaders MoP service partner group leaders

The “MoP” model has enabled myself and the team to …. Run a School aged IY group every term for the last 10 years Work with amazing people Keep to the IY protocols and programme dosage Implement the new programme (Attentive /ASD) Pass the message on through the range of trainings

Our Current Incredible Years Menu Trainings; Baby, Preschool, school aged and Home Coaching Grant funded groups; School aged IY groups in North, Mid, West and South Essex School Readiness in Mid, West and South Essex AS group programme in North and South Essex School aged IY ADHD targeted group in North Essex. (16 weeks) Paid for service; IY home coaching

Our target population

Early Intervention -Pre & Post SDQ Parent Norm Scores- last 3 years (219 parents )

But what do the parents really think But what do the parents really think? Parent Satisfaction Questionnaire Outcomes School aged Programme 81 parents over 4 areas of Essex Same group leaders in each area Scales transferred to %

Overall Programme

Usefulness of teaching Format Most useful

Usefulness of Specific Parenting Techniques

Satisfaction with Group & Co-Leaders

Group Support

What are the changes in trends in the groups Text more than phone calls From buddy pairs to buddy WhatsApp groups More demand for information on Screen time/social media Increase in children with ASD & ADHD Reduced funding – more openness to private funding of groups Parents want more …

We aim to try to keep up with the trends Communication via phone not post Piloted emailing handouts Extending information on web site AS group online interactive handouts Outcome No printers High % of phone memory data Liked the hard copy alongside the email handouts - option to download

What are the changes in trends in the trainings Lower numbers More self funded applications Demand for paperless IT & data controls changes Services wanting less (supervision/ dosage )

Obstacles have been Range of roles ….. from cleaner to director Supporting staff in the accreditation process (manager /mentor) Limited opportunity to implement Dina school and baby IY Funding for projects & wages

What's kept us IY’ing ……. The new programmes keep me and the team on the learning ladder Every group is different Keeping true to core values It works!! Still inspired

What's next for MoP ?
