Development, and Refinement of the answerable question. The team selected a few things that we thought were of significance and then used them to come up with a practice related question. The few things selected include adults suffering from traumatic brain injury, rehabilitation programs and services, and increase in biopsychosocial factors. The answerable question that was asked is: How effective is rehabilitation programs and services in helping increase biopsychosocial factors in adults suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI)?
Development and implementation of a search Strategy We used Medline as our database and once we searched all our key terms we received 10 results. We ensured that our results were from the last 10 years, and were written in english. We used Truncations, Boolean Operators and Wildcards to aid our search. From the results we received, a journal article called ‘Experience of recovery and outcome following traumatic brain injury: a metasynthesis of qualitative research’ was obtained and used for this assessment.
Criteria-based critical appraisal of the strength of the evidence The study was helpful for those population who was in the rehabilitation services because it involved their social support network. The results obtained were not valid because the study did not involve people who acquired TBI during adulthood. The results were helpful to an individual just locally. We need a study that help us to have a better understanding about those who have been through those experiences during the recovery and see what they need in live experiences after that injury
Application of the appraised evidence to practice The rehabilitation programs and services was effective in individuals for the local community. The individuals were asked to talk about their life experiences as a measure however the interpretation of the TBI could have changed over time. It does not include the recovery process the individuals went through when getting better from TBI. The research measures the loss and reconstruction of identity following TBI which there is no measures currently available that can be used. For many people the recovery was long , linear path to loss and suffering through the recovery on the other hand , some participation reported of success of recovery.
Assessment of performance in developing capacity to be an evidence-based practitioner The 8 types of experiences most commonly felt amongst those with traumatic brain injury were: A disconnection from the mind and body A disconnection with their pre injury self Social disconnection Emotional sequelae Internal and external resources that can affect their injury and day to day life Reconstruction of self identity Trying to find their place in the world after their injury Trying to figure out who they are after their injury
Results The rehabilitation describe what they need via the following treatment and responsibilities and community living and back to their houses. The patient's stage included : emotional support - understanding the injury and in the last two level of the stage will be guidance + life planning + behaviour + emotional issue
Recommendations Long term services and care programs should be put into place after the rehabilitation phase . More research is required to determine whether the programs and services are appropriate for people with TBI in other regions. Education is something that needs to be worked on and we suggest conducting health promotion programs. People with different racial background should have been included in the study to make it more relatable to everyone. The sample size was also small, only 80 people so more people could have been used.
