History The animation company “TMS Entertainment Co., Ltd” was founded by Yutaka Fujioka in August 1964, making the company one of the oldest animation studios in Japan. Originally called “Tokyo Movie” when founded, they have had several name changes, with “Tokyo Movie” lasting until 1976, to become “Tokyo Movie Shinsha” until 1995 and “TMS-Kyokuchi” until 2001, before settling for “TMS Entertainment Co., Ltd”.

Projects The company have produced many popular pieces of work in both Japan and the western world, with shows like Detective Conan, D.Gray-man, Bakugan, Sonic X and Akira. The current chairman of the company is Hideki Okamura. Its parent company is Sega Holdings who purchased the rights to TMS in 2010. TMS have been known to work with other companies to co-animate shows, working alongside “Telecom Animation Film” and “Koko Enterprises”. There is no exact number for the people who work for TMS, but it can be assumed it is with the hundred region due to their subsidiaries who co-work with them and the amount of shows they produce. They currently still are producing shows, such as Bakugan and Lupin the 3RD and these shows can be found on many television stations that are willing to show it. An example would be Adult Swim who are showing Lupin The 3rd.

How they get funded TMS are funded through merchandising business of their products as well as by supplying TV stations around the world with their animation. They also promote broadband, mobile and TV sales as part of the film packaging business that they run with broadband providers in multiple countries.

Target Audience TMS have a wide target audience as they produce many shows for different age groups, for example, Akira is quite gory, so is aimed towards teenagers, but Ducktales is a cartoon for kids due to its silly nature, so is ideal for older kids in the 8-13 years age range.

Studio JAM

Animation company for all styles Studio Jam is dedicated to producing all types of animation, whether that be cartoon, anime, stop motion or 3d, we have it covered.

About the Company Studio JAM was founded by Jake Anthony Medland, hence the name JAM, his initials. It was founded recently, in the month of June of 2017. It has been quite successful due to it’s dealings with advertisers and content creators. It has links to merchandise as well as entertainment packages as to secure it’s funding, remaining financially stable.

Employees and funding Studio JAM has currently over one hundred employees, most of whom work on animation of products. We have 3d animators, those who work on stop motion, and those who work on 2d animation and anime. Some members work as a business link between creators and the company, where we buy the rights to animate a piece of work. By purchasing these, we can then push for merchandise to be made alongside the animation, if successful enough. This in turn helps to fund the company and keep it running.

Current Projects Studio JAM are currently working on an animated version of the successful TV show “Moonlight Hunters” written and directed by Jack Burke. Since the company that runs the live action version of “Moonlight Hunters is also owned by Jake Medland, he has rights to the series and is able to grant the right to an animated version of the series. They also co-animate series with other animation studios, mostly working alongside the animation company Nelvana who have produced many popular animations by themselves, such as Beyblade and Donkey Kong Country.

Target Audience Due to the variety of animation that Studio Jam do, they also produce many types of show, meaning that their target audience is everyone interested in animation from any age range, depending on the show and its content. For example, Moonlight Hunters would be aimed at older teens and young adults due to its intense focus on survival in a post apocalyptic world.
