Rural Transportation Technology in Communication and Outreach HIRTA Public Transit | Central Iowa Rural Transportation Challenge: Rural Communities struggle with limited access to transportation. technology implementation throughout HIRTA is helping to increase accessibility, improve communication, and streamline outreach efforts across HIRTA’s 7 county region. Communication and Outreach Process: From free technology such as Skype, to RouteMatch Scheduling software, technology can change communication within transit organizations. Internal Communication Customers are learning how to take control of their transportation experience through the RouteMatch Customer Portal. External Communication Video how-to’s, social media interactions, and agency education sessions are helping communities learn about the benefits and details of public transit. Community Education Impacts: Increased Safety Environmental Responsibility Ease of Access Increased Education and Outreach Community Involvement
