"Keep track of the school's calendar and don't be afraid to ask questions [and] advocate for your child, but at the same time step back and let them try to work out their problems."
"Be ready for an emotional ride. Move in day was harder than I expected. Most important is be ready to let go and let your son or daughter make their own choices. Take a step back and let them be independent with you in the wings ready to help if asked and needed. Set clear expectations-- study habits & grades, money, dining plan, drinking, when to check in, etc."
"Enjoy this transition & let your student adapt his or her own way "Enjoy this transition & let your student adapt his or her own way. They will thrive."
In the 2016-2017 academic year, 148 first-year students were found responsible for violating the Student Code of Conduct (13.8% of the first-year class) Of those 148 students, 21 went through the process again. 62% of our first-year students described themselves as non-drinkers.
"Hearing officer was very polite and explained the situation and process very well. I did not feel uncomfortable at any point." "Everything went really smoothly and I appreciated the fact that I was able to share my side of the incident in a friendly, yet serious environment." "I have certainly learned from this experience. Although I was found responsible, it was of course my own fault and the sanctions imposed by WIT were very fair and I definitely learned my lesson from them."

By December your student will… … have made connections with others on campus. … understand that sometimes email is not the best and you need to speak to people in person. … know that Dean Fowler was right at Orientation when he said going to class is really important. … recognize that failure is temporary and success can last a lifetime. … be looking forward to being home for winter break. … say they can’t wait to be back on campus in January.
