Juice and the Bean Stalk By TEAM St. Mark’s

Introduction Will adding OJ to soil of bean stock increase growth? Independent– amount of juice Dependent—height of stem

Materials 1 liter orange juice (minute maid) 1 liter potting soil 8 styrofoam cups Water 8 germinated pinto beans

Procedure Plant 8 pinto beans

Procedure different amounts of OJ in each pot 0 ml 20 ml 40 ml 60 ml

Procedure Water with 20 ml every day Let grow in a window for 2 weeks Measure height

Diagram

Data Table Volume of Juice (ml) Height (cm) 3.9 20 4.1 40 5.6 60 5.8 3.9 20 4.1 40 5.6 60 5.8 80 6.2 100 7.1 120 6.5 140 4.0

Conclusions Hypothesis supported. More orange juice=more height Directly proportional Orange juice is an okay fertilizer

Sources of error Plant tipped over Difficult to define “height” of plant Orange juice went bad
