Use the interactive map (pages 26-27) on European Exploration 1487-1611 Review the routes followed by Dias and da Gama. What direction did these Portuguese explorers travel? Why do you think more explorers began to travel West?

The Real Journey of Columbus While you watch the video clip, take notes listing the false myths surrounding Columbus’ 1st voyage to the Americas.

Evaluate Columbus In your opinion, explain if you think Columbus' voyages were successful despite their outcomes. Why or why not? Why do we often think of Columbus as the one who discovered America?
