Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) DHEO is part of the Delaware Department of Education Staff size of 7 Administers 16 scholarships Approximately $3,000,000 in scholarships are processed through DHEO Approximately $7,000,000 in SEED and Inspire scholarships are paid through DHEO

State of Delaware Scholarships For the 2019-2020 academic year FAFSA completion deadline for state aid is April 15, 2019, or earlier - almost all scholarships require a FAFSA Students must create a Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) Student Account online to apply for state scholarships http://delawaregoestocollege.org/step-2-find-state-aid/ There are many types of scholarships Merit and need based State scholarships Private scholarships administered by the DHEO Loan Incentive Programs where loans can be forgiven for qualifying employment in the State of Delaware

Delaware Scholarship Compendium https://scholarships A hard copy of the Delaware Scholarship Compendium was mailed to all high school seniors attending a Delaware public or charter school Lists hundreds of local and national scholarships Can search online by several different categories Application deadline Athletic Academic/Merit High school

DHEO Scholarships for high school seniors B. Bradford Barnes Scholarship -1 awarded each year Covers full tuition, fees, room, board and books Charles L. Hebner Scholarship - 2 awarded each year Herman M. Holloway Sr. Scholarship - 1 awarded each year Diamond State Scholarship - approximately 40 awarded each year Award amount is $1,250 per year

Scholarship Incentive Program (ScIP) Award amount is $1,000 Approximately 900 awards given out each year Not renewable but you can reapply every year Min GPA is 2.5 Based on financial need, as determined by FAFSA Must be enrolled full time Can be used in any college in Delaware Or can be used in any college outside of Delaware if the student’s major is NOT available in a Delaware public college

Scholarship Incentive Program (ScIP) How to Apply The application process for ScIP requires three steps 1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 15, 2019 2. Provide academic records to the Delaware Higher Education Office by July 1, 2019 3. Create, a Delaware Higher Education Office(DHEO) Student Account online at www.delawaregoestocollege.org and provide anticipated college enrollment information for 2019-2020 by July 1, 2019

SEED Student Excellence Equals Degree Provides tuition for eligible DE high school students enrolling full time in an associate degree program at Delaware Technical Community College or the University of Delaware's Associate in Arts program Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and enroll no later than the fall semester immediately after high school graduation Must meet all admission standards of the institution, there is no application for SEED Must file a FAFSA annually

Inspire Scholarship Provides tuition for eligible DE high school students enrolling full time in a degree program at Delaware State University Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 and satisfy the admission standards of Delaware State University Enroll full time no later than the fall semester immediately after high school graduation Complete 10 hours of community service, as defined by the institution, each semester at DSU Complete a FAFSA annually by March 15

Delaware Nursing Incentive Program Full Time students enrolled in an accredited program leading to certification as an RN or LPN High school seniors must rank in upper half of class with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA Undergraduates must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA Loan amount is $5,000 per year Loan is forgiven at a rate of one year of employment at a State owned hospital or clinic for one year of loan

Christa McAuliffe Teacher Incentive Program Full time enrollment at a Delaware college in a program leading to teacher certification High school students must rank in upper half of class and have a combined score of 1010 on the SAT Undergraduates must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA Preference given to applicants planning to teach in a critical need area Loan is forgiven at a rate of one year of teaching in a Delaware public school for one year of the loan, loan amount is $5,000

Delaware Teacher Corps Incentive Program High school seniors must rank in upper half of graduating class and have a combined score of 1140 on the SAT Applicants must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA Full time enrollment at a Delaware public college in an undergraduate or graduate program leading to teacher certification Preference given to students who intend to teach middle and high school math and science or who intend to teach special education in a content area. Loan forgiveness at a rate of one year of teaching in a Delaware public school for one year of loan. Loan amount covers tuition

Ada Leigh Soles Memorial Professional Librarian and Archivist Incentive Program Can be used for Bachelors degree, Masters or Doctorial degree Applicants must have worked in a Delaware Public library for at least 2 years Masters Degree applicants must be enrolled in an American Library Association accredited masters degree in Library and Information Science Loan covers tuition, fees and books Loan can be forgiven for eligible employment in a Delaware library.

Optometry Incentive Program Full time enrollment in a program leading to licensure as an optometrist in Delaware Loan forgiveness at a rate of one year of employment as an optometrist in Delaware for one year of loan Loan amount is $4,000 per year Approximately 2-4 new awards made each year

Speech-Language Pathologist Incentive Program Full time enrollment in a graduate program leading to a speech-language pathologist license Award amount is $5,000 per year Loan can be forgive for eligible employment in Delaware Approximately 2-4 new awards made each year
