Give a shout-out to @ICTedu Give a shout-out to @ICTedu. Technology has always been a seamless part of Daithis's teaching.

“The project is very timely given the Department of Education and Skills’ prioritisation of numeracy at both primary and post primary level....  The use of a 3D learning environment and geometric building tools by children to collaboratively build 3D replicas generating a fully interactive world powered by their own software is very much in line with the thinking and implementation of the project maths curriculum at post primary which is being rolled out at present to all schools.”   ~ Jerome Morrisey, Director, National Centre for Technology in Education

Ms. Anne McMorrough, St. Martin de Porres, Tallaght, Dublin

Anne McMorrough, St. Martin de Porres, Tallaght, Dublin.- "Being part of the Mission V Project has been a completely captivating experience! It has provided us with simple tools to collaboratively imagine and build new worlds within a 3D virtual space, pushing the boundaries of teaching and learning in so many dynamic, exciting ways."

Mr. Stephen Devlin, Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal, Dublin

Stephen Devlin, Scoil Mhuire gan Smal, Inchicore, Dublin - 'MissionV allows children to learn as they immerse themselves in the virtual world whilst collaborating to achieve their goal. I would recommend it to every teacher as it suits a wide range of learning styles whilst also teaching a wide range of skills. My class have learned many new computer and social skills during this process and constantly ask "When are we doing MissionV again?"'

Edmund Gillespie, Dromore National School, Co. Donegal - "I have observed some of our more reserved pupils become more expressive and confident as the work has continued, and feel that their self esteem has been positively enhanced. This is a new medium for the pupils to learn, explore and create in and one which I feel should be extended to more."

Ms. Marion Morrin, St. Munchins, Limerick

Marion Morrin, St. Munchins Girls Natioanl School, Limerick - "Teaching and learning in a virtual world has huge potential with endless possibilities for creativity, problem solving and collaboration. My pupils are highly engaged and highly motivated, they frequently assist one another and me and they consider their work on MissionV to be fun."

Marion Morrin says - "My pupils and I have been exploring the virtual world together and this has created a lovely equilibrium in the classroom - the pupil teacher divide has been totally eliminated. They are very focussed and they are developing skills in the areas of co- operation, problem solving and creativity."

Mary Purcell, Scoil Eoin, Kilbarrack, Dublin - "Lots of incidental learning taking place. Pupils becoming more competent in the use of mathematical language to describe what they are constructing." Student said, "I love MissionV it is a fun game and you don’t notice your learning"

Ms. Esther Lambe, Broughall N.S, Co. Offaly

Esther Lambe says - Challenging, exciting, innovative, exhausting, futuristic, satisfying, fun, are some of the words I would use Each day the children brought enthusiasm and genuine commitment to their learning. As they acquired new knowledge, their ideas and zest for more increased.

Mr. Padraig O'Beirne, Gortskehy N.S., Co. Mayo.

Padraig O'Beirne says - "Everyone in class, regardless of ability, contributed to the project at their own pace, setting targets and realising goals. It encouraged independent learning as the children were enthusiastic to carry on with the project outside of school hours. I believe the MissionV model could be applied across many subject areas."

Dr. Conor Galvin, UCD School of Education & Lifelong Learning

Dr. Conor Galvin says - - "MissionV is a success story of creativity and innovation in an educational setting. The project already provides impressive proof of concept and offers a coherent and deployable model for schools interested in using immersive technology as part of their curriculum activity."

Dr. Conor Galvin says - - "MissionV set out to provide an early and positive grounding for participating students not only in the technical skills of programming but also in the ‘softer’ skills of connecting, creating and collaborating." - "Interesting to note the strength of feeling that the project should and could be continued beyond its intended close-out."

Dr. Conor Galvin says - - "Children need to be more self-actualised as learners and this requires both structured challenges and motivational activities. The possibilities offered by a virtual world in this regard are to say the least intriguing."

You've seen what virtual worlds look like and what the teachers say about using them. But what is the essence of a VW. What is the pedagogical value?
