Areas we’ll cover What we expect SATs Secondary transfer

Responsibilities- To whom? Parents/Teachers/School/Themselves Expectations- Work & how they conduct themselves both in and out of the classroom Homework – Developing Independence

SATs Standard Assessment Tasks National Curriculum - 1989 SATs started in 1991 for 7 year olds 1995 for 11 year olds 14th – 17th May 2018

Changes from ‘Old SATs’ 4 years ago There are no extended level (6) papers There will be opportunities for the more able children to show their understanding, within the test paper that everyone will do. Science isn’t going to be tested in that week. No mental maths test

Changes from ‘Old SATs’ As we no longer have levels, the children will be given a raw score based on how many questions they got right This will be converted into a scaled score, with 100 being age-related expectations

Scaled Scores SPAG MATHS READING

Reading paper focuses

Wording of questions - Reading Inferential – What impression do you get…? Why did Oliver find it difficult to …? How do you know that…? What evidence is there of…? Explain what this description suggests about…? Why were the dodos curious and afraid?

Set goals and rewards for reading. Make it a family activity – show children your love for reading. Make reading memorable and fun – e.g. Drama activities, art and watching related videos or films. Keep a note book with revision hints and tips Please do not use past papers at home

SPAG Questions

Tips for SPAG Ensure children complete the homework provided. Where possible, ensure your child is using the correct English when speaking. Practise writing spellings daily. Practise putting spellings into a sentence to secure punctuation and grammar. Check that your child is using a dictionary to look up the meaning of new words. Make sure children understand the terminology. Please do not use past papers at home

Maths Test

Maths - Arithmetic

Maths -Reasoning

Maths Reasoning

Tips for Maths Know your multiplication and division facts Practise halving and doubling two and three digit numbers Halve 90 Double 90 Write your numerals clearly Write your answers in the box If you don’t know how to do something ask; don’t leave it too late. Keep a note book with revision hints and tips Please do not use past papers at home

Tips for tests Stay calm and don’t panic. Read the question carefully – e.g. tick one, copy two words. Answer to the point, full sentences not needed. If you are struggling, skip to the next question and return later if there is time. In reading and SPAG, eliminate wrong answers in multiple choice questions. Look out for information in bold or italics. Underline key words, facts and figures to support you. Always start the reading paper by looking at the question first, then read the 1st paragraph so you know which information you are looking for.
