Portrait Study

Project: Self Portrait It is PREFERABLE that you do a Self Portrait. You grow in more ways than you would imagine doing a self portrait. Any time you feel stuck as an artist in your work - do a self portrait. You cannot start your project unless you have had your image approved.

Options 1 & 2: Self Portrait Option 1: I can take your photo! Today! :) I promise you’ll photograph well. Option 2: I could take your photo, and take a photo of someone in the class, and then trade it with them (draw each other). Here are some examples of photos I’ve taken of my friends in case you need some confidence in me… ;)

allisonbfarra@gmail.com Option 3: Self Portrait Option 3: If there is a particular photo you like of yourself on Facebook or Instagram, that’s great! That’s what the Chrome Books are for. Download the image of yourself and send it to me SO THAT I CAN APPROVE IT. allisonbfarra@gmail.com

Option 4: Portrait of Someone You Know Option 4: If you really do not want to draw yourself, you can draw someone you KNOW. NO celebrities. Even if you “know” them.

CHECK YOUR EMAIL RELIGIOUSLY Image Criteria Your image needs to be from the abdomen up. No full body. Your image needs to be clear. When I get your email and look at your image, if it is pixelated when I blow it up to print it, you’re in trouble. Your image needs interesting lighting. CHECK YOUR EMAIL RELIGIOUSLY

Media The media we are using is white AND black charcoal on a medium tone paper. How does that work?? You use the white charcoal for your highlights, the black charcoal for your dark shadows, and leave the medium tone of the paper as your MAIN midtone. There are some in betweens that will need to be shaded, but you will be leaving some of the paper underneath to show.

Examples

allisonbfarra@gmail.com Email If you are HERE. RIGHT NOW. IN THIS CLASSROOM. I expect an email with an image in it from you BEFORE you leave class today. If you do not send me one, you will automatically lose your points for this assignment. allisonbfarra@gmail.com

Done? When you’re done emailing an image to me, you can work on your animal drawing if you’re not done. Done with your animal drawing? Catch up on your Sketchbook Homework.
