INTRODUCING SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN & ADULTS LEVEL 2

Aims & Objectives At the end of this training, you should be able to identify: What abuse is and how different types of abuse might be identified Where abuse may take place Who abuses Why abuse might occur and to whom What to do if you witness abuse Where to find additional information Safeguarding service structure in SEPT Safeguarding is protecting adults and children from abuse, this online course is split into four distinct areas: 1. Introduction to Safeguarding 2. Safeguarding Children: 3. Safeguarding Adults: 4. Additional Safeguarding information affecting both children & adults All sections have to be completed for successful completion of the course. The course should take approximately an hour and a half to complete.

Introduction to Safeguarding Definition Safeguarding is promoting a child or adults welfare and protecting them from maltreatment, harm or abuse: Abuse Is a violation of an individuals human or civil rights by any other person Safeguarding Responsibility Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility regardless of which member of the family is the primary service user. It is your duty and responsibility to report any abuse wherever it is seen, suspected or reported . You must take the necessary immediate actions to ensure the protection of any person at risk of or suffering abuse.

Consent and Confidentiality Remember Whilst every effort should be made to ensure confidentiality is preserved, the disclosure of information which may assist in the prevention or detection of abuse is permissible. This applies both to information about third parties No adult or child can be offered a completely confidential service. e.g. adults who may pose a risk of harm to children or about those who may be the subject of abuse. Don’t forget you can always contact the Information Governance Department or the Caldicott Guardian Staff should contact their line manager for advice if there are concerns about sharing information. Staff should consult the Trust Safeguarding Policies or the Trust policy on Confidentiality CPG9.
