Transcendentalism Human senses are limited; they only convey knowledge of the physical world. Fundamental truths lie outside of the senses; these are grasped only through intuition. Through the observation of nature, the nature of humans is illuminated; this brings self-knowledge and universal truths.

The Over-Soul Emerson’s concept God, man, and nature are united in a shared soul—the Over-soul. All beings are united in a universal spirit after death. Every being is part of the mind of God.
