INTRODUCTION: CONCEPT OF A NATURAL EVENT AND A HAZARD
Day 2: Primary Pollutants
Presentation transcript:

Presented by: Ryan Snipes Benzene Presented by: Ryan Snipes

Sources of this pollutant volcanoes Vehicle exhaust (combustion processes) Forest fires

Benzene is a outdoor pollutant The processes that create benzene is mainly outdoors due to the natural occurrence of this pollutant

Benzene is a primary pollutant because it is emitted directly from a source

Human health concerns Large amounts of benzene at once can be extremely dangerous and may even cause death Small amounts over time can lead to organ damage

Environmental effects Benzene has the potential to leak into groundwater supplies and poison all those who pull water from it

How to prevent benzene pollution: •Reduce amount of combustion processes • Prevent man made forest fires
