Update on the School Commons Clare Stanier and The members of the School Commons

Computing School Commons

Computing School Commons: Core participants

What the participants thought of it “An excellent forum to discuss teaching and learning with colleagues. I would love for this to continue in the future, and it would be very useful to have presentations on Teaching and Learning theories, followed by discussions about how to apply them in our work” “This was a fantastic and motivating experience” “I found this to be extremely useful and made me reflect on my own practices and opinions” “Great chance to discuss ideas and talk about teaching and learning experiences”

Why did it work?

What would have made it work better? “I found this to be extremely useful and made me reflect on my own practices and opinions. It is a shame that more people didn't get involved.” A recommendation from the Commons and also supported by Lattice is that one Wednesday afternoon a month is reserved for T&L events – without this, not everyone will be able to participate

Facts and Figures and Outcomes 16 staff took part – just under half of eligible staff with a core group of 12 We held 6 sessions, total number of attendances, 52, average attendance 8.6% members of staff Each session lasted between an hour – hour 20 minutes so conservatively, that is 65 hours of staff development Developed the Blackboard presence And a paper for INTED in Valencia in March Taking it Forward All the survey participants said that they would like to take part in something similar in the future & there are a number of suggestions for future events
