ISMS Cross Country Parent Information

Schedule Wednesday, Sept. 5 Hillwood (one mile only) Wednesday, Sept. 12 Indian Springs Wednesday, Sept. 19 Pike Middle School Wednesday, Sept. 26 Trinity Springs Wednesday, Oct. 3 Zone Meet –Trinity Springs Wednesday, Oct. 17 MEET OF CHAMPIONS at Boswell High Athletes will be running two miles except for the first meet which will be one mile. Wednesday Races begin at 5:00 p.m.

Practice When: Every morning except for the Wednesday race days (Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26, and Oct. 3- no morning practice) starting at 7:15 a.m. Where: Back of ISMS Meet at the outside basketball court at 7:10 for attendance. Please be ready to start warming up at 7:15.

Practice (continued) We will end practice at 8:05 so 8th grade runners will have time to change before their first period class. 7th grade runners will go inside for attendance for 1st period. They will work out with off season during the class period.

What to expect at the meets… The meets can be quite hectic. Therefore, it is imperative the athletes warm up together and pay attention to the races so they do not miss their run. After races, the athletes and their parents need to sign out with Coach Walton or Coach Gneiting.

Run in the Dark We would like to make sure that every family has an opportunity to participate in the 19th Annual Run in the Dark, happening on Saturday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. The more people who register to participate, the more funds our community raises for children in KISD and NISD. At this time, almost 12,000 children in Keller and Northwest districts qualify for services. There is a one mile fun run and a 5k. You can help in the mission to provide for the well-being and educational needs of local kids by signing up at : http://www.runinthedarkdfw.com/ You can also sign up by getting a registration form in the office. This is not mandatory, but we encourage all of our athletes to sign up. Coach Walton and Coach Gneiting plan to be there! 😊

Other Helpful Info… Athletes may use earbuds to listen to music during long distance practice but not during speed workouts. Don’t eat anything heavy before morning practice. No milk! Bring snack for after practice. Drink plenty of water throughout the day!!!! I can’t stress this enough. The temperature will most likely be very HOT especially for the first couple of weeks. Stretch again in the evening. (I recommend getting a foam roller.) Get plenty of rest. Important: Please make sure that you have running shoes that fit properly so you don’t get blisters or lose toenails.

T-shirts for sale Some of our 8th grade cross country runners have designed a t-shirt for this season. More info about the shirt coming soon!

Goals for Cross Country Throughout the season, we want our runners to have fun and gain confidence in their ability. Much of running is mental toughness. We will be pushing them to go beyond what they think they are capable of doing. Not only will they be competing against other runners, but they will be competing against their own time from meet to meet. We will be encouraging them to set a personal time goal each meet. KISD’s high schools have strong cross country programs, and we hope that our runners will want to continue when they leave us. Running is one of the few sports that can be a lifelong form of exercise and one in which you can continue to compete as an adult.
