Island Arcs

Starter: In pairs look at the diagram below and develop an explanation of why Island arcs form.

Island Arcs Lesson Objectives: To understand how Island Arcs are formed. To know the features of island arc. Success Criteria: Create an annotated diagram explaining the formation and features of an Island Arc.

Task: Read Geofile 492 and produce an annotated diagram on Island arcs Task: Read Geofile 492 and produce an annotated diagram on Island arcs. You should include a diagram, aerial/satellite images of an example. Annotation needs to include: how they are created and different features of island arcs eg Beniof zone, trench, sediment arc etc

Plenary: Using no more than 50 words write an explanation of what Island arcs are for a non geographer. Homework Read Geofile 526 on Hotspots for next lesson and complete Island Arc work
