Presentation transcript:

EUS 260 Capstone Project

Project Description The student will be given specific electrical information for their project. The student will then develop a program for a SEL 351S protective relay to operate a distribution feeder circuit breaker for the protection of that feeder and reclosing of the breaker. The program will then be downloaded into the relay and the relay will be tested using a Doble 6150 relay test set to verify correct operation.

Project Description Student will be assigned a T-D transformer and be provided the following Voltage rating MVA rating Impedance Winding connections

Project Description Student will calculate transformer short circuit current. Student will provide instructor short circuit current values

Project Description Instructor will provide the student with the following. Primary tripping amps & time curve for 50 & 51 Ø relays. Primary tripping amps & time curve for 50G & 51G relays. Three reclose times. Under frequency setting and time delay.

Project Description Circuit breaker shall trip to the 50 relay protection at the first trip only. Circuit breaker shall not reclose after an under frequency trip. Student shall choose the necessary CT ratios.

Project Grading Meeting all requirements listed will earn the student a course grade of a “C”. To earn an “A or B” the student can add enhancements to their operating program. The SEL 351S relay is very powerful and contains many other operating features. All students will have the same basic program requirements but once a particular enhancement is chosen it can only be used by one student.
