Understand college admissions vocabulary Understand how financial aid works and the facts about college costs Register for the SAT and ACT March 2 the SAT will be offered at SHS for all Juniors Review PSAT Score Report (on-line) for access code contact counselor

What should Juniors be doing now to prepare for college? Research careers and degree programs Make a list of colleges that might be a good fit for you Consider academic fit and academic environment Consider finances Degree Programs Undergraduate research opportunities Internship Opportunities

What should Juniors be doing now to prepare for college? Help your counselor get to know you! Remember that I will be writing your counselor recommendation letters next year Review graduation plan and senior year courses- remember colleges do consider courses taken senior year Make sure you are meeting any special requirements for degree programs

Notes about Class Rank Quartile ranks/updated GPA’s will be included in the 4th six weeks report card mail out (NHS invitations are based on these GPA’s) First exact rank will be sent out at the end of June per district policy Students cannot request transcripts prior to August 1 per District policy Website for Class rank policy https://cms.springbranchisd.com/district/for- parents/committees-taskforces/class-rank Top 10% must show class rank per SBOE policy Automatic admission based on June rank Re-ranking by the end of October – move-ins/withdrawals Final Ranking in January for Graduation purposes

College Application Process Application windows traditionally open August 1st Colleges prefer applications in ELECTRONIC form Apply EARLY For most current info, see college websites (most accurate) Observe scholarship deadlines when applying Be aware of impacted majors…Automatic Admit means into college, not necessarily major.
